1st Dibbs - The marriage of old and new in interior design. / by Anna Paganelli

Here at Equation Design Studio we love the idea of combining older pieces or furniture with newer, modern pieces. Having a combination of older pieces with a rich history and the new pieces creates a harmony and gives life, personality and character to your home. Mixing old and new is one of the easiest designs to master as marrying old and new works so effortlessly. Design trends tends to come back around, so many things that are vintage or antique have probably been recreated in the 21st century, but getting them in their vintage ways can add a homey and unique vibe.

We love 1st Dibs, an online company specialising in selling antique and vintage furniture, accessories and much more. “The company has been recognised for pushing the antiques business into the 21st century." They have such cool and amazing pieces that are hard to imagine were made years and years ago.

We created mood-boards to show the perfect marriage of antique furniture and accessories with modern rooms using 1st Dibs pieces.

Here uses the 1st Dibs 20th Century Ettore Sottsass Mirror Ultrafragola for Poltronova and 20th Century Ettore Sottsass Small Bowls mixed with a very modern and unique bathroom interior.

Here uses 1st Dibs Sandrine Bed, King Size Com with Polished Bronze Metal Legs, Pink Sanora Side Table by Ben Barber Studio and Houseof Pink Diffuser Wall Light with Metal with LED Bulb.

Here is the 1st Dibs Fitzroy Sofa in Cotton Velvet and Polished Casted Bras, the very nice and elegant Italian coffee table made in Italy in the 80’s and the 21st Century Modern Set of 3 Vases Nebula, as well as a modern and contemporary living room interior.

As seen from our mood-boards its hard to even tell whats modern and whats vintage. The antique pieces from 1st Dibs add a really contemporary effect and a strong design theme. It adds depth to a room that looks independent from any other.
